Brake Controllers For Flat towing Jeeps or Honda CRV

Question:

I am considering flat towing a Jeep or CRV behind a motorhome. I know that I need a brake controller, so would I get an electric over hydraulicinch controller? Can you explain to me how it works? Thank you. Also, would the Curt 51170 Spectrum be a good choice?

Both Jeeps (all models) and Honda CRV's can be flat towed (with a few steps to ensure your transmission is safe) and I recommend the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional Item # SM99251

A supplemental braking system is a must when towing a car or truck behind your RV. Without it, the weight of the towed car can create a safety hazard, strain your RV's brakes, or affect your RV's warranty. Most states require a supplemental braking system.

The Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional - Dash Mount Item # C51170 is meant for pulling a trailer behind a vehicle and not for flat towing your vehicle.
