Upgrading a Reese Round Bar Weight Distribution System to Accept Dual Cam Sway Control
Question:
Currently, I am using the reese round bar setup. I have the ball head tilted back towards the trailer as far as possible which puts the bars tilted down as far as possible. I have older 750 lb rated bars and my tongue weight is at that number or slightly above. I went to the CAT scale. Weight distribution worked. Tongue weight was shifted to drive axle and to rear axle as required. However, I have only five chain links from the spring bar to the bracket hook. If I use the dual cam setup, with the part that substitutes some of the chain links, if I only have one or two links, is that ok? If I use bars rated for 1200 lbs, would that help with number of links?

The Reese Dual Cam system # RP26002 will still work with one or two links. I will say, however, this will not work with all the Reese round bar systems. The bars must have the curved lip at the end that can seat into the # RP26002.
Higher rated bars would definitely help with this as they would handle your tongue weight better, but we do not have 1,200 pound round bars for Reese systems.
What you could do to get up the weight needed, would be to go with the Reese weight distribution system # RP66022 as well as the # RP26002. You should be able to use the shank and ball that you have on your current system.
I included a couple review videos for you to check out as well.
