Recommended Brake Controller and Installation for 2021 Honda Passport

Question:

Hi, I see you recommend the bluetooth wireless brake controller # 51180. I would prefer to use a hard wired brake controller. Please let me know which one you recommend for a 2020 Honda Passport Elite AWD. Also, what additional wiring is required for the hardwired controller when using the 118291 harness? Thank you

I see that you'd looked at the Curt item # C51170 Spectrum Brake Controller. While I really like the idea of a remote-type brake controller that features a control unit that mounts out of sight under the dash with a knob that mounts within the driver's reach, I prefer the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty, part item # RED24FR. The control knob of the Liberty is smaller, and if it's installed in an un-used switch knockout in the dash or by using a mounting bezel like item # 331-TPSI-001, you'll end up with a less expensive controller that would provide a much better, almost factory installed appearance. Really the only advantage the Spectrum has is that it can handle a trailer with up to 4 axles, which you likely wouldn't tow with a Honda Passport anyway.

To install the Liberty, you'll need the Redarc universal wiring pigtail, part item # RED69FR. You'll also need the
item # 3070-S which would wire color for color with the item # RED69FR pigtail and would plug into the factory brake controller connector located to the left of the steering column near the top of the e-brake pedal.
