Comparing The Yakima FullTilt 5 Bike Rack And Thule Apex XT 5 Bike Rack

Question:

We need a bike rack that will fit 4 adult bikes 2 womens and 1 childs bike on our 2020 Chrysler Pacifica 2inch hitch. Im wondering which rack will be easier to fit 5 bikes of varying sizes. Ideally, Id prefer not to have to use adaptor bars. Im also wondering how/if they differ in terms of bike weight limits total and per bike, ground clearance, and how far they extend beyond the vehicle when tilted up/not carrying bikes. Lastly, when loaded with bikes, can either be tilted forward to provide access to the trunk?

You will be limited to a hanging style bike rack since that is the only type of carrier than can handle 5 bikes. Unfortunately you will need to use an adapter bar such as # HRBA-PRO for any oddly-shaped bikes such as step-thru, women's, and children's.

Regarding the Yakima FullTilt 5 Bike Rack # Y02463 and Thule Apex XT 5 Bike Rack # TH9026XT, both have a weight capacity of 150lbs and can fit 1-1/4" and 2" hitch receivers. Both offer a tilting mechanism which allows for access to the trunk on most vehicles and should work just fine with the trunk on your 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The Thule Apex will sit about 1" higher than the bottom of your trailer hitch receiver while the Yakima FullTilt will sit about level with the bottom of your receiver, therefore the Thule Apex will offer slightly more ground clearance. With the arms folded down the Thule Apex measures about 16" from the hitch pin hole while the Yakima measures about 14" from the hitch pin hole. You will need to remove the bikes before tilting back either carrier.

Both carriers are very nice and have similar specs. They both have integrated locks for the bikes and the carrier. It really comes down to preference, but I would go with the Thule Apex since it is offered at a slightly lower price. I attached demonstration videos for you to check out.
