Can Saris SA805BL Bones Trunk Mount Bike Rack Carry 45lb e-Bike on 2021 Hyundai Kona

About Saris Bones 2 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms Item # SA805BL When the specs mentioned 2 bikes 35 lbs per bike, does it mean a total of 70 lbs will be supported? i.e. 45 lbs Electric bike 25 lbs bike Should I choose the 3 bikes model instead? According to Saris, their # SA805BL Bones 2-bike trunk mount rack can accommodate 2 bikes weighing up to 35 lbs each. Even though the total weight of the two bikes you're wanting to carry won't exceed the capacity of the rack, having a bike weighing 45 lbs would place stresses on the rack that it wasn't engineered to withstand and could cause the rack to fail. The same would hold true for the # SA803 as well.

An alternative option would be to install a Class 3 hitch like the Draw-Tite # DT52GR which is compatible with both the gas and EV model Kona.

You'd then need a hitch mounted bike rack that can handle the weight of the bikes, The rack that I recommend for your bikes weight is the Thule Epos, part # TH99XE which is actually an awesome bike rack.
