Recommended Tailgate Cap For 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Short Bed
Question:
2005 Chevy Silverado 4 dr short bed need A replacement part for the top of the tailgate The hard black plastic is to thick and does not let the Tonneau cover close properly. I was told that their is a replacement part for that to hide the other parts bolt holes I need one.

It sounds like you are looking for the Putco Tailgate Cap # P51617P which is confirmed to fit the tailgate on your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Short Bed and is made out of 17 gauge stainless steel making it just under 1/16" thick.
The # P51617P hangs down about 4" which will be able to cover the bolt holes mentioned.
