Weight Distribution and Sway Control for a Jayco Jay Series 1206 and 2006 Ford Expedition

Question:

I have a 2006 Ford Expedition with HD tow package. It is rated to tow 8,600 lbs. I am wanting to install a WDH on the Jayco Jay Series 1206. I believe it has a C channel frame. It has a dry weight of 2,475 lbs, a GVWR of 3,450 lbs. It has a dry hitch weight of 320 lbs. I am assuming my tongue weight will be around 400 lbs with it loaded due to the front storage compartment. What do you guys recommend for a WDH for this setup?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Because your trailer has a C-channel frame, the Pro Series system you referenced, # PS49901, would be a good choice. It is rated for up to 550 pounds tongue weight and has lift up brackets that will work with the C-Channel frame. Also you will want to make sure that the 550 pound capacity of this system will be enough.

Tongue weight is calculated by taking the trailer tongue weight, when loaded and ready to tow, then adding the weight of anything carried behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I have included a link to an FAQ article on tongue weight for you to view.

I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation for you of the sway control portion for you and a link to our weight distribution FAQ.
