Recommended Ball and Coupler Size to Haul a 3,500 Racecar

Question:

How do I determine what would be the correct size for the ball and the trailer receiver for a four 4 wheel, 2 axle open trailer. The trailer will be used to carry a 3500 lb. race car 100 to 250 miles each way?

For a trailer that is going to be hauling 3,500 lbs, I would recommend a 2" ball and coupler. We have many different options to choose from for both.

For the ball and ball mount we have the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches # 989900. This kit is nice because it comes with a 2", 2 5/16", and 2 ball mounts.

The trailer coupler is going to be a little bit more specific to what shape your trailer tongue is. Straight and A-frame couplers are our most popular trailer couplers. I recommend the Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler w/ Jack Hole - eZ-Latch # DM14793-81.
