Comparison Between Hollywood Racks # HR1400Z and Swagman XTC-4 # S64655 Hitch Mounted Bike Racks

Question:

Are there any significant differences between the HR1400 and the Swagman XTC4? What sort of reviews have you received on the rack? Have your customers had any trouble with either? Can the HR1400 be tilted down with bikes loaded in order to access rear hatch? Do you strongly recommend one over the other?

There are indeed some significant differences between the Hollywood Racks # HR1400Z and the Swagman XTC-4, part # S64665.

The reviews for the # HR1400Z are shown on the product page for the bike rack, which you can see by using the provided link. The rack has been well received by our customers, and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

The # HR1400Z is an extremely versatile rack. It can be tilted away from the vehicle while bikes are upon it to allow easier access to the cargo area of the vehicle. If you should find yourself only needing to transport two bikes, the rear portion of the rack can be removed. The rack also features an anti-rattle handle to hold the rack tightly in the hitch receiver, and the rack has a 200 lb capacity. Like the XTC-4, the # HR1400Z can be folded up flat toward the rear of the vehicle for storage when the bikes are not in place. Hitch and cable locks are included to deter theft.

The XTC-4 is a good rack as well, but it lacks the ability to tilt away from the vehicle for rear access. It also has a much lower capacity at 140 lbs. The rack does not provide an anti-rattle device, and is not convertible for carrying only two bikes.

Even though the # HR1400Z is priced a bit higher, I would recommend it over the XTC-4, primarily because it can tilt away from the back of the vehicle for hatch access.
