Thanks for the photo of your 2017 BMW X5, which shows it has flush-mounted rails, and roof rack that is the best value for your BMW is from Rhino-Rack. The reason why is that Rhino-Rack roof racks give you the same amount of quality as similar name brands, but at a more economical price. The parts that make up the rack for your '17 X5 are the following:
- Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA137B-2
- Rhino-Rack SRB Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars - Flush Factory Side Rails # RRSX026
Those are the only parts you will need, and the aerodynamic bars are low profile, so the rack will have a stellar lock on top of your BMW. The aero shape of the bars along with the rubber vortex strips with grooves on top disrupt the airflow and wind noise to keep the bars quiet so you can get to your destination in peace. In terms of getting the most out of your money, the best option truly is going to be this rack.
In regards to a cargo box to pair with the rack, I I recommend going with an option from Yakima:
- Yakima GrandTour Rooftop Cargo Box # YA74FR
I love the GrandTour because it is large, durable, and really easy to use. This box gives you 16 cubic feet of cargo space to carry your gear, and can haul skis that are up to 185 cm long. It has a 165 lb weight capacity and is made of ABS plastic (a very durable thermoplastic which is designed for hard use) and has a scratch-resistant finish, so it will last. Using it is simple because it clamps on your Rhino-Rack bars and you'll just turn a knob until you hear a click and that's it. It also comes with locking sides so your gear will be secure as you travel.
I have added a couple of links below to video reviews for you to check out as well of the rack and cargo box if you'd like to take a look.
