How to Pick out a Weight Distribution System for a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Towing a 35 ft Travel Trailer

I know you get this all the time , but here I go anyway. looking to tow a 35foot TT 6,1000lbs dry weight, Passport Grand Touring 3220BH. The truck,2008 ram 1500 quad cab, is equiped with factory tow package class IV hitch, 7 pin wire harness, HD tans cooler, 3.92rear end, 5.7l Hemi. 6ft bed. wheel base 140.??inches. I have come across two diff numbers for max towing 7,500 and 8,500 lbs Any recomendation/oppinion on weight distribution and anti sway set up. If I am crazy please dont be afraid to say so.

The most reliable way to get towing capacities on a vehicle is to check the owners manual. There can be a lot of contradictory information floating around the internet so I would recommend you either check your owners manual or contact a Dodge dealer.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of a setup. Once you know that you can pick out a system that will work the best for you. You should note that any weight from cargo behind the rear axle of your truck should be counted as tongue weight. Chances are the Reese Weight Distribution System # RP66542 that you referenced would be a good choice for you but I would still recommend you confirm what your loaded tongue weight will be before you pick out a system. You will want to pick out a system that encompasses the loaded tongue weight.

You will need a ball too. If you need a 2 inch ball you would want a Hitch Ball with 2 inch Diameter # A-90, or if you need a 2-5/16 inch ball you would need a part # A19286.
