Solution to Carry 4 Bikes While Towing with 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Hello, My wife and I have a Rockwood HW277 pop-up camper that we toe with our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We would also like to be able to take 4 bikes with us. We are trying to figure out our best options to be able to put a bike rack on our camper. I was considering having a hitch receiver put on the back of the camper, but was sure what the extra weight in the back would do to the overall balance and weight distribution of the camper. I was also looking at the bike bunk to put on the A-frame, but from what Im seeing the bike bunk only holds up to 100lbs so Im not sure how that would work either. The third thing I saw was the hitch extender that allows you to tow a trailer in the bottom spot while being able to use an accessory such as a bike rack in the top slot. I just dont know which would be the best route for us to go in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

For carrying 4 bikes you'd have the best luck with a roof rack installed on your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and then using roof rack mounted bike racks. There's not enough room or weight capacity to do a 4 bike on a bunk adapter on the trailer. This would be true as well for a dual hitch adapter plus these cut the hitch capacity by 50 percent.

For a roof mounted bike rack the Thule ProRide XT part # TH598004 would be a really solid option. It grabs the bikes by the frame and allows you to keep the front wheel installed as well.

If you don't have a roof rack with crossbars check out the link I attached to this page that has all of the options we offer that fit your vehicle. You'll need to select your roof style from the filters on the page.
