Tow Bar Wiring Parts Needed for Flat Towing on 2014 Ram 1500 with Brake Buddy Supplemental Braking
Question:
I have a 4 pin flat connector from my motorhome to my Ram 1500 to operate the RV turn, stop, and parking lights on the truck when towing the truck. I also have a brake buddy that has a charging pin that is supposed to connect to a hot wire from the motorhome. What is the easiest way to make that connection? Obviously the 4 pin doesnt have a hot wire.

The best solution for this is going to be installing a 7 way with a fully operational charge line using something like the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector with Universal Pigtail Harness - Vehicle End # HM47210. You'll be able to use the existing wiring just by cutting off the plug on the 4 way and splicing into the Hopkins harness; then you'll just need to run a line to the battery and for a brake controller if you're using one.
Once you've got a fully operational 7 way you'll be able to use a new tow bar wiring setup like the Roadmaster # RM-15267, which comes with diodes to protect the electrical system. This will give you the wiring to plug into the 7 way you're installing on the RV.
I've linked a short review video of this part for you to check out.
