2-Point or 4-Point Sway Control For 5,500 lb Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2021 1500 Ram and Im buying a travel trailer that weighs 5460 lbs. Im going to have to buy a weight distribution hitch and I need your recommendation. I have used the type that used the side arm friction which I had no problems with but I am wondering how much difference between that one and a 2.0 weight distribution hitch and a 4.0 wd hitch. With a relatively light trailer, I was wondering if a 4.0 was necessary. Is there that much difference between systems.

That's a really good question, and while there is a difference between the 2-point sway control and 4-point sway control, when it comes to smaller trailers like your 5,500 lb travel trailer, I recommend going with 2-point sway control.
The 2-point system will more than do the job, providing highly effective sway control at a better price than 4-point sway control (which provides tension at the head unit and spring bars, whereas the 2-point provides tension just at the bar). The size of your trailer does matter in regard to weight distribution, because the larger your trailer, the more likely you are to experience sway in crosswinds or a passing truck. A smaller trailer won't experience the same amount of sway, so the 2-point option is easily the best value.
So for your 5,500 lb travel trailer the best option is the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800.
The Fastway is going to provide you with outstanding sway control while also being easier to set up than similar systems. It is one that our customers think very highly of, and with hundreds of reviews to day, our customers who have used it have given it a nearly 5-star rating.
The only other thing you will need is a hitch ball depending on the size of your trailer's coupler, either the 2" Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6080 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 19286.
I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well of the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800.
