Trailer Bounce 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question:

Hello, What would you suggest the best way to help with camper bounce. I have a 2017 Silverado and I pull a 6,000 pound trailer. The truck has plenty of power but I dont like the bounce I feel when loaded.

My first suggestion is to use a Weight Distribution Hitch, if you are not already doing so. For your application identified, I suggest the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800. It has an 8,000 lbs GTW and is rated from 500- 800 lbs tongue weight. After that, ensure your trailer is not overloaded and ensure the load is balanced. Your tongue weight should be between 10-15% of of total trailer weight, 600 lbs. or slightly more. Etrailer.com offers a tongue weight scale # e99044.

If you do not have enough weight on the tongue this can cause bounce within the truck to trailer connection, but too much weight can influence bounce from the back of the trailer. In addition, ensure that your trailer is level and that the suspension components are not damaged (tow vehicle as well). You may need a different ball mount, I've attached a link to a help article that explains how to choose the right ball mount. I've also attached other links to product review and installation videos. If everything checks out to be ok and you are still having issues with bounce, please feel free to send me an email and we can continue with additional troubleshooting steps.
