Raising Height of 5th Wheel Trailer For Level Towing With 2020 Ram 2500

Question:

I sold my 2004 dodge truck and bought a 2020 Ram 2500 4x4. The bed sets a lot higher than my old truck. Will I have any issues hooking up my 5th wheel trailer. If so what are they. Thanks

It's possible there will be an issue with being able to tow your 5th wheel trailer level when towing with your 2020 Ram 2500 that has a higher bed. I wouldn't be able to tell you a flat "yes or no" but you want to be as level as possible, with about 6 inches of space between the top of the truck bed rails and the bottom of the trailer loft for adequate clearance.

Pin boxes are adjustable, as are 5th wheel hitch heights so if you aren't level, you can try adjusting both to get the proper height. If not, what you can do is raise the height of your trailer with a simple over/under conversion kit, which is often called "flipping the axle":

- Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00

This kit is a fit for 3" round trailer axles, which is very likely what you have on your 5th wheel, and what it will do is moves your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle and lifts your trailer approximately the same amount as your axle's diameter plus the height of the leaf spring pack (please keep in mind this conversion kit is for use with double-eye springs only).

I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well of the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00.
