Recommended 2-Bike Carrier For 71Lb RadRover Step-Thru Electric Bikes
Question:
I have the Kuat Sherpa bike rack and just bought two RadRover ST eBikes. Didnt think about the weight capacity since I know its very sturdy. Now I read it has a weight capacity of 60 lbs. per rail bike. These new off road bikes are 71 lbs. Any suggestions on what I might be able to use to haul these two bikes behind my Subaru with the 2 inch class 3 receiver? Would appreciate your expert help and advice. Thanks!

The Kuat Sherpa bike rack comes in a few variations, but all have a weight capacity of 40lbs per bike such as the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches # SH22G. If this is what you have, then there is no safe way to transport your 71lb RadRover ST Ebikes with this bike rack. If you actually have a different model that has a 60lb per bike capacity like you mentioned, then you could try removing the batteries from your ebikes to reduce the overall weight of the bikes and you may be under the 60lb weight capacity.
If you cannot get your bikes to meet your bike rack's weight capacity then I highly recommend looking into the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack # S94FR. This bike carrier is specifically designed to transport 2 electric bikes weighing up to 75lbs each. Since your bike is considered an ST (step-thru) frame design then you will need to use adapter bar # S57FR which will ensure the bike is safely secured to the bike rack. This bike rack allows up to 3" wide bike tires. It looks like your Ebikes have a 4" wide tire; if so, then use Swagman Fat Bike Kit # S64679 which can handle up to 5" wide tires. I have attached demonstration videos for you.
