Suspension Enhancement Options for Heavy Tongue Weight Travel Trailer and GMC Sierra 2500
Question:
I was considering purchasing the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for my 2014 GMC Sierra. I have a bumper pull 34’ toy hauler with a really heavy tongue weight. I do have an equalizer hitch but it still has a considerable squat. I was just wondering if these would help to make a better safer ride. This is the only heavy trailer I pull seasonally as well. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

For the situation you are describing, and considering that you already have a weight distribution system in use, I agree that enhancing your rear suspension is the next step toward creating a safer ride. Yes, the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System is an excellent choice. We have a confirmed fit for your 2014 GMC Sierra 2500 in #TGMRTT35D. These hollow rubber springs sit above the rear axle to help stabilize and level your truck providing a more comfortable ride by absorbing road shock and improving roll stability; becoming more rigid as more weight is added. While these are an excellent cost effective option, and relatively easy to install, I would like to identify that these are not adjustable. They are however maintenance free, install and go. However, if you want something that is adjustable, please consider air springs.
The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2613. With these you have a load-leveling capacity of 5,000 lbs. The Ride-Rite springs will not increase your vehicle's weight-carrying capacity but they enhance your suspension and fully adjustable from 5 psi to 100 psi. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your vehicle level, hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer that can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires. The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll.
In almost all applications I prefer air springs over the jounce-style springs because of adjustability, not only for compensating with the vehicles squat under load but also with the side to side adjustment that becomes available. If you think these features come in to play for your application, then I highly recommend this option of air springs with # F2613. Otherwise, if the install and go, no adjustment feature is more suited to you, then Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRTT35D is the best jounce-style spring choice.
