Tire Chain Recommendation for 255/80-17 Tires on 2015 Ram 3500 Dually
Question:
I have a 2015 Ram 3500 dually and need chains for a 255/80 17 tire. This is NOT the stock size tire. I am planning on using the Konig chains if possible on the front yes, its a 4x4! Even while towing my 5th wheel, there is plenty of weight on the front end to provide traction with the chains. I would also consider maybe cable types for the rear duals just in case I still needed more traction. Thanks for any advice.

Konig doesn't offer chains that would fit the 255/80-17 tire size, but we do have other choices.
Ram does state in the owner's manual that it's acceptable to use chains on both the front and rear wheels of the 3500 dually models, but they go on to say that you should use the same type/style chains on the front and rear axle to prevent handling problems.
I'd recommend the Pewag # PWE4228SC for the duals on the rear axle, and if you wish to use chains on the front axle, use # PWE2228S. These chains feature square links for great traction and are reversible, so you'll get extended life from the chains. This is a pretty pricey option, so if you wish you could simply use the # PWE2228S up front and a set of the same chains on the rear outer tires, which is perfectly acceptable according to Pewag.
I spoke with my Titan Chain representative, who does not recommend cable chains for towing, as he didn't feel that would provide you with enough traction.
I've linked to a demonstration video featuring the Pewag All Square chains I recommended.
