Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2002 Manual Transmission Equipped Ford Focus

Question:

I already own a demco commander 2 tow bar, and a patriot brake system. What else will I need to tow a manual transmission 2002 Ford focus? Thanks

If your Focus does NOT have the 2.3L engine, you can use the Demco # DM9517088 base plate kit.

If you do have the 2.3L engine, you could use the Roadmaster EZ base plate, part # 52491-1 along with the
# RM-032 adapter. The adapter would allow the Roadmaster base plate to work with your Demco Commander II tow bar. If you don't already have them, you'll need safety cables like part # RM-643.

To wire up your Focus, I'd recommend a diode kit like the # RM-15247 from Roadmaster. For your Patriot braking system, I'd recommend a # RM-9332 12-v outlet to power the Patriot. Because the Patriot will create a draw on your battery, I'd also recommend using a # RM-156-25 charge line kit that would use the 12-v feed in the 7-way trailer connector on the motorhome to deliver a maintenance charge to the battery.

Finally, if the installed height of the base plates has a height difference of greater than 3 inches +/- compared to the receiver height on the motorhome, you'll want to use a high/low adapter to bring the tow bar within 3 inches of level. I'll link to an article that shows how to determine if you need an adapter.

I've also linked to some product videos that you might find helpful.
