Do Oil Bath Trailer Hubs Require Grease Applied to Bearings
Question:
I have a dexter 10000# axle and hub assembly with oil bath bearings. When I change the bearings, do I put any grease on them initially pack them or simply put them in and fill the oil to the level required. When I took the oil bath cover off to change it looked as though the bearings may have had some grease within them as well as the oil bath. Thank you for your help. Regards,

Helpful Expert Reply:
You do not need to grease bearings that go into an oil-bath hub like the Dexter 10k hub part # 8-288-3UC1. Filling the hub with oil like you mentioned would be all that's needed.
