Can I Use a Demco Recon with a Lippert Turning Point Pin Box

Question:

I’m thinking of purchasing the demco recon for my 2019 Ford F-150 with 6.5 box. The trailer I have has the kippers turning point pin box. My question is will there be to much torque on the center pivot post with this pin box? And I’m seeing forums where the wedge doesn’t cover a lot of the hitch plate due to how it’s made.

Yes. There will be a large amount of torque in this case since Sidewinder pin boxes (or your Lippert Turning Point) pivot and twist in a different way from standard pin boxes they require fifth wheel hitches to be attached to the truck in four points around the perimeter of the hitch. That's why you typically can't use a Sidewinder with a Demco Recon # DM8550045 since it connects to the truck via a gooseneck ball only.

As far as compatibility specifically with the Lippert Turning Point pin box goes, since the opening for the Recon hitch head is a little larger than normal 5th wheel hitches I doubt that the universal wedge that comes with the Turning Point will fit correctly; it would imagine this would be the wedge that has been referred to previously on the forums. We have had customers say that the Reese wedges for the Reese Sidewinder works with the Turning Point but we haven't been able to test this out for ourselves so I can't 100% sure say it will work. If you want to go that route though you will need the Wedge # SWW-05, which would likely be a better fit than the universal one that came with the Turning Point.
