Transferring Fifth Wheel Hitch in 2007 Chevrolet Silverado to 2012 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 4WD Diesel

Question:

we had our 5th wheel hookup in our 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and now we have bought a 2012 Dodge Ram crew cab 4x4 diesel,what we want to know is what do we need to change are the bolts attachment and the rest will fit.

To transfer the fifth wheel hitch from a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado to your 2012 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 4WD Diesel you will need to purchase a fifth wheel installation kit for your Dodge Ram.

The Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, part # RP50140-58, you have referenced will fit the 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Crew Cab 4WD Diesel. The kit will include the custom brackets, base rails, and hardware. This kit will work with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky fifth wheel hitches. You will want to make sure if your 2012 Ram has a 6 foot short bed that the fifth wheel hitch you are using will be a slider hitch. A slider hitch can slide 10 to 12 inches back towards the tailgate to gain the clearance needed between the cab of the truck and the front of the trailer when making tight turns with the short bed truck.

If your Ram has a 8 foot long bed you will want to use a fixed fifth wheel hitch.

Depending on the bed length of your truck and the type of fifth wheel hitch you have, you can swap out the fifth wheel head with the type of legs you will need for your application.
