Solution For Brake Controller EBS/Error Message On 2020 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Im reading in online forums about feedback from REDARC products causing dash lights and braking system warnings in late model 4runners when manual braking button is pushed for more than 3 seconds. I built my own harness from the REDARC provided harness and the vehicle factory harness and experienced this condition as well. In the online forums, it recommends using the Tekonsha 3041-P harness instead of the vehicle harness, as it contains a diode to prevent this condition. Is this true about the Tekonsha harness? And, does the RED49FR harness contain this diode as well?

This is a common issue I've seen in many different Toyota 4Runners as they seem to be more sensitive to backfeeding from the red wire of the brake controller to the stop light switch. This causes the issue you're seeing, triggering the ABS error message.

You are correct when thinking that a diode will prevent this from happening but the Tekonsha 3041-P harness does not feature a diode in the red wire; the harness you need is the # 7865.
