Can Bike Adapters For Cargo Carriers Work With E-Bikes

Question:

I had a question regarding the curt cargo carrier with 500lb capacity. Is it possible to use the bike adapters with this cargo carrier to transport two electric bikes that each weigh 65 lbs. Will the weight of the two bikes be okay? These electric bike do not have fat tires, but normal 28x1.75 tires and with a wheelbase of 54. Thank you for your time.

The design of a bike adapter to work in conjunction with a cargo carrier is great way to get maximum use out of your cargo carrier! The use of such adapters as the Bike Rack Adapter for Stromberg Carlson Cargo Carrier Part # CC-125 has NOT been tested or confirmed for use when carrying electric bikes. Tech support at Stromberg Carlson has stated they have only done testing with standard bikes, and can not confirm the use of the adapters with e-bikes.

If you are looking to safely carry two e-bikes of that weight capacity, I suggest the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 Bike Rack for 2" Hitches Part # HLY84FR. This rack works with e-bikes up to 80 pounds each and can accommodate up to a 60" wheelbase.
