Adding Separate Turn Signals to a Trailer Towed by a Honda Goldwing with a 5-Wire Harness

Question:

Presently, my pull behind trailer is a 4 wire flat. My Goldwing is a 5 wire harness. I do not want to use a 5-4 converter on the bike. I will be adding two separate LED turn signal lights to the trailer. Presently, the trailer has 2 LED lights that are running/turn/brake lights. How will I need to wire the trailer with the additional separate turn signals. Presently white - ground brown - running lights green - right turn/brake yellow - left turn/brake black - power

Based on the wiring functions you have given for the 5 wires on the bike it looks like it is already converter down to a 2-wire system. What you will need on the trailer side is a converter to separate out the turn and brake signals since they are presently combined.

You will need # 118158. The green wire will attach to the green on the converter, yellow goes to yellow. Brown will bypass the converter. Then on the output side of the converter the red wire will need to be split by attaching it first to one tail light then running a jumper from that wire over to the other tail light. It will connect to the wires that current carry the combined brake and turn signal circuits for each light.

The green wire will go to the new turn signal on the right side. The yellow will go to the new signal on the left side. Nothing will change with the running light wire. The converter will need to be grounded to the trailer frame.

The old stop/tail/turn lights will now only function as running and brake lights. The turn signal functions will be taken over by the new lights. The black wire for power does not seem to be needed by the trailer. A 4-Way flat usually will fit into a 5-Way flat. If yours do not fit together you can use # HM47910 and tape up the wire not used by the trailer.

Michael, I think I describe my goldwing wiring incorrectly. The wing has separate amber turn signals lights from the runningbrake lights. So that would be a 3 wire correct? I would also like to use a 5 pole round connector types. So does that change the schematics for re-wiring the trailer so it has separate turns signal lights from the running/brake lights? Thanks again,KJ
