Wiring Harness and Braking System Recommendation for Flat Towing 2003 Chevy 2500 Behind Motorhome

Good morning, we might be doing a project for a customer. He wants to pull his 2003 Chevy 2500HD behind his motorhome. He has drawbar and tow bars. He wants us to hook up diode system to his truck to utilize his own lights. Also, he wants us to install some kind of integrated brake system to utilize his trucks own brakes while pulling in the mountains. Any advice would be appreciated. I would be buying parts from you.

I'd be happy to help with that.

In addition to the tow bar and base plates he already has, he'll also need safety cables like # RM-643. For a diode wiring system that would allow him to use the existing taillights on the truck, I'd go with the Roadmaster # RM-152-98146-7. For a supplemental braking system, I prefer a portable system like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. A portable system won't need to be permanently mounted to the vehicle, and can be moved to a different vehicle easily later down the road if needed.

Also, assuming a receiver style and not a coupler style tow bar is being used, if the height difference between the installed base plates and the receiver on the tow vehicle has a height difference greater than 3 inches, a high/low adapter should be used to bring it within that 3 inch range. As a final note, if he's planning on using the Roadmaster # RM-520 Falcon 2 tow bar, you'll want to make sure the loaded weight of the truck doesn't exceed the 6000 lb capacity of that tow bar.
