Rain Sensor Closes MaxxFan Lid When Detecting Excess Moisture
Question:
We have a Grand Design Reflection 320MKS with the MaxxFan with Rainsensor. We recently tried to operate the exhaust fan with no success. I manually opened the cover using the manual operator, when we tried to run the fan it does not turn but closes the cover. After 3 attempts to operate the fan from inside the trailer, I went up on the roof to check the status of the rain sensor. To my surprise the sensor was operating as designed, when the sensor detects water it closes. The sensor was covered by about 1/2 inch of water. After removing the water and wiping the sensor with alcohol it allows the fan to operate. You might want to put this note in your troubleshooting issues.

This is great information! Thank you for reaching out to us with this tip. You're correct that the rain sensor closes the MaxxFan's cover when it detects surrounding rain or snow.
As noted in our product description for the # MA00-04500K, there's also a button on your MaxxFan's keypad that allows you to deactivate the sensor in situations like this, but tread carefully. These safety lockouts are designed to prevent excess moisture from entering your Grand Design Reflection 320MKS from the top, and they work well for a reason. A wet camper is never a good thing.
In the long run, it's just good to know that if you can't get your MaxxFan to open, there's likely a good reason why. You'll need to check out what's going on up top to rule out excess moisture on the roof as the culprit.
