Which is Better a Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch or a Sidewinder Pin Box

Question:

I’m thinking about getting a sidewinder king pin. I have a 2020 Ford F350 crewman short bed with a stationary Camco 16,000 lbs hitch. I have a Trailair Rota-Flex kingpin on my Solitude now. Are these good to put on or a sliding 5th wheel hitch? And does it have any cushion in it? Thank You

Expert Reply:

Sidewinder pin boxes are great options for towing fifth wheel trailers with short bed trucks. They are an overall better choice than slider hitch in a few ways. One way is that you never have to get out of the truck to activate a slider so you save time and energy, you get to use a stationary hitch while will weigh less and be less noisy when towing due to less moving parts, and the trailer will track better behind your vehicle around corners since the pivot point is moved back as well as easier to reverse. There also is cushioned Sidewinders available with the 5th Airborne Sidewinders like the part # RP61422 that does fit your Solitude's chassis.
