What is the Capacity of the Retrax ONE XR Tonneau and a Roof Rack System for Carrying a Tent

Question:

Hello, Firstly Im sorry for what seems like a repeat question. Just cant seem to decipher all the text on topic. I have a Toyota Tacoma. Im considering purchasing a retrax one or por XR tonneau. Id like to use this in conjunction with cross bars and a rooftop tent. With weight limits in mind would all these parts work together? Or is the retrax not able to support the tent and bars?

I can see why this might create some confusion; the Retrax ONE XR # RTT-60851 (5ft bed) or # RTT-60852 (6 ft bed) won't have a capacity since when using a rack it won't actually be bearing any real weight, but the roof rack you choose and the tent that you pair it with will be the main concern.

You'll need to make sure that you choose a roof rack that has over a 220-lbs capacity like the Yakima OverHaul HD Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack for Tonneau Cover - 68" Crossbars # Y01151-5855. The Overhaul HD actually has a 300-lbs off road capacity/500-lbs on road capacity, so it's well equipped to handle a tent or anything else you might want to throw at it.

For the tent, you will want to make sure that you use a tent that has an external support ladder like the Yakima SkyRise HD Tent for Roof Rack Crossbars - 2 Person - 400 lbs - Tan and Red # Y07436, so that you're not overloading the rack.

Using these parts together would give you the setup you're looking for that is appropriately rated to carry a tent. If you've already got a tent, but it doesn't have an external support, as long as you stay under 500-lbs of weight on the rack you would be fine.
