Braking System And Wiring For A 2004 Subaru Impreza
Question:
Looking to install a permanent brake system 2017 Winnebago 31G pulling 2004 Subaru Impreza I currently Have a factory installed brake controller which I use with my enclosed trailer My question is looking at both the Stealth system and the roadmaster system I would like a clean install And was curious if either of these systems will tie into my original brake and lighting harness to avoid unnecessary wiring. The stealth Still says it works as a trailer brake controller as well I’m just confused with the wiring and plugs

To flat tow your 2004 Subaru Impreza it does require additional wiring for your lights. I recommend the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit Item # RM-154. This kit allows you to tap into the factory wiring behind each taillight so the vehicle can receive light functions from the motor home. The Diodes protect the vehicles factory wiring in the event there is a wiring issue between the two vehicles. Once installed it is unnoticeable.
If using the Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System - Proportional Item # HM39530 The plug that mounts to the front of the vehicle has a four pole plug on the back. This plug connects to the four pole plug from the diode wiring kit which cuts down on instillation time. Once the Stealth system is installed it remains in the vehicle. The brake controller for the braking system has to be installed in the motor home in order for the Stealth system to function. The current brake controller would need to be removed and the Stealth brake controller is wired inline the same way as a typical brake brake controller. The Stealth brake controller has a setting on it and can be used as a brake controller when pulling a trailer. That mode would just need to be changed to the appropriate setting when towing either the trailer or the vehicle.
It is a good idea to install both of these while the fascia is off and the baseplate is being installed as it makes it easier when routing any wiring.
