Do Hydraulic Trailer Brakes Release Sitting at Traffic Light

Question:

When stopped for a stop light or train or highway construction or whatever, I assume the controller continues to run as long as your foot is on the brake? Is this hard on it? Should you shift to park or apply the emergency brake while stopped in traffic?

The actuator of the HydraStar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # HSE7K-T1 will maintain brake pressure as long as the brake controller is telling the actuator to maintain it, but what most brake controllers have, like the Prodigy P2 part # 90885, have is a function that after a certain amount of time with the brakes applied the controller stops sending voltage as it assumes you are at a stoplight.

So while the actuator doesn't provide the function you mentioned the brake controller would as long as the controller is a solid one like the P2.
