5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for a 2004 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
Question:
I am looking at a 5th wheel small one 23 ft. I would be getting the Reese 30031 hitch, but no slider, can I get one for this hitch still and will that make it possible for me to install on this truck. 5-1/2 foot bed, 1500LD, with the heavy duty tow package, the camper GVWR is 4600. Help, please

There are 5th wheel trailer hitch installation kits available for the 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500LD with the 5-1/2 foot bed. You can use custom installation kit # RP50064-58. I have included a link to a video that shows a typical installation and a link to the installation instructions for you.
For a hitch given that the weight of the trailer is low you can go with a 16K hitch which is the smallest available, # RP30047.
Because you have such a short bed and because you cannot use a slider hitch, you will need to add a Sidewinder pin box to the trailer in order to safely make tight turns without running the the trailer into the truck cab. A Sidewinder moves the pivot point of the trailer back 22 inches for added clearance.
To determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit the trailer you will need to go by the pin box manufacturer and model number. This information is normally found on a sticker or plate on the pin box. Then use the FAQ I have linked to determine if there are any Sidewinders that will fit.
There is also a formula in the FAQ to determine if you will have enough clearance even with the Sidewinder. Before purchasing anything I advise to follow the formula and take the measurements to make sure that everything is going to work safely together.
