How to Determine if 2,000 lb Capacity Hub and Drum and Electric Brakes Will Fit

Question:

I have a snowmobile trailer that is a sled bed trailer its a tandem axle with 10 in wheels. I do not have the Vin unfortunately. The trailer currently has a drum brakes on one axle that where removed im looking to replace the brakes with electric brakes. It has a 4 bolt backing plate. I am thinking that these parts will work. AKEBRK-2 for the brakes and AKHD-545-2-2K, I cannot find the brake controller though. Will these parts work?

I can tell you for sure that the two parts you mentioned will work together; the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 2,000 lbs # AKEBRK-2 with Mounting Hardware # BRKH7 will absolutely fit the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 2K Axles # AKHD-545-2-2K.

In regard to if the hub will fit your trailer, there is only one way to determine that for sure, which I can help you with. First, you need to know the weight rating of your axle, and also what bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them.

If you are unable to find them, you need to use digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.

So if you have 2,000 lb axles, and you find that both your bearings are L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) and your seal measures 1.50 inches at the spindle, then you will be able to use the Hub and Drum # AKHD-545-2-2K.

That would be the only way to know for certain you are getting the right parts, but if it turns out you have something different you can let me know what bearings you have or the measurements and I can try to find you the right part. Otherwise, I have added a link below to our entire selection of hub and drums, as well as some video reviews for you to check out if you'd like.
