Dual Propane Regulator is Making Whining-Type Noise

Question:

I have a high pitched whining sound that seems to come from the regulator on my 2014 Keystone Cougar. The regulator looks just like part number 37207-30395. This only happens when the regulator switches to the tank on the other side of the trailer. I recently detected propane odor from the single stage regulator connected to that tank, replaced that high pressure regulator and the associated pigtail. The connections seem secure with no more telltale odor at all, but the whining persists unchanged and seems to come from the side with the dual regulator. There is no such sound if the tank that is being used is on the same side as the automatic changeover regulator. It makes me think I might need to change out that 37207-30395 regulator. Before doing that, does it seem that it is likely the source of that sound? It is very noticeable in the bedroom, and I definitely want to eliminate the source of the noise. I know that pigtails fail too, but there doesnt seem to be an odor coming from that side. Otherwise, the regulator functions by switching from one tank to the other automatically, so hate to spend the time and money if its probably not the regulators fault. what do you think?

A bad regulator can indeed be the cause of the whining noise you are hearing on a regulator such as the Automatic Changeover RV LP Gas Regulator # 37207-30395, but there are other causes as well which may come into play.

Sometimes, colder weather can induce the type of whining noises you are hearing, as can an overfilled tank, which might explain why this only happens when your regulator switches from one tank to the other. It can also happen when there is moisture that somehow got in the tank if it was not purged correctly when it was new, which is rare but does happen, so you may need to go ahead and let the tanks run out completely and then re-fill them to see if that alleviates the problem.

But should those not be the case then the only other thing that would likely be the issue is indeed the regulator, which you can replace with the one you mentioned, the Automatic Changeover RV LP Gas Regulator # 37207-30395.
