Bike Rack that Folds up on 2010 Toyota Rav-4 with Spare Tire

Question:

Will your 4 bike carrier HR4000 bike rack fold up on a 2010 Rav4 has the spare wheel attached to the outside of vehicle. without hitting the spare tire? Also, the Rav4, 2010 models rear hatch opens to the side instead of up. When the bikes are removed from the rack, can the rear hatch be opened all the way on this model? Would like to order this model ASAP, so would appreciate an easy ASAP. Thanks! Sheryl Canavan

I have a solution for you but the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack # HR4000 will most likely not be able to fold up on your 2010 Toyota Rav-4. Most of the hitches available have a clearance of around 7" between the center of the hitch pin hole and the outer most edge of the spare tire. The closest part of the Destination is 6" when folded up. We have not had the opportunity to test this in our shop but I do believe you would be able to open your hatch with the bikes removed.

The Saris Freedom Bike Rack # SA4414B is a great option to carry 4 bikes. The closest part of the rack when folded up is 10" which is more than enough room to clear the spare tire on your RAV-4. It does not come with locks for the hitch or the bikes, so you may want to add the locks # SA984 to secure them.
