Recommended AC Unit for Vintage Airstream Trailer Where Roof Is Only 1-1/2 Inches Thick

Question:

Hello. I think I am ready to buy a new roof AC for my vintage Airstream rebuild. I was leaning toward the Furrion 13.5. However my roof is only 1 1/2 inches thick. Do all the AC units require a minimum 3 1/2 inches?

If your trailer's roof is only 1-1/2" thick, you can still use the Furrion Chill # FR52PR but you will need to build up a lip of sorts on the roof where you'll be installing this to make up for the difference. There isn't a specific kit that can be used for this type of installation, but you could use some wood blocks that are 2" thick or taller to help lift the unit off the roof and make the installation work.

You could also use something like the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/ Air Distribution Box, Start Capacitor, and Heat Strip - 15,000 Btu # ACM150CH which can fit ceiling thicknesses at least 2-1/2" thick, and also has a heat strip to help pump some heat into your trailer on cold mornings, so it's a bit more versatile a unit.

I've linked some review videos of these units for you to have a look at; one of these videos specifically shows the installation of a unit where the roof isn't quite thick enough as you're experiencing.
