Adapter to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a B and W Square Shank Turnover Ball Trailer Hitch
Question:
I bought a truck with a gooseneck arleady installed and I am trying to idenify the type so I can purchase an adapter plate for my 5th wheel hitch. I have read that the square shank is a B and W but if I try to turn the ball over it doesnt go all the way down into the hole upside down. Also it has one lock pin that goes into the ball when its in the locked position. I am looking at the Curt X5 Fifth Wheel Adapter, item # 16310. Will this adapter work with my truck and reese slider hitch.

B and W does have a square shank turnover ball gooseneck hitch with the ball that pins in at one spot on the ball shank. If you determine that is what you have then the Curt X5 adapter, # 16310, would be correct and it is compatible with a Reese slider 5th wheel trailer hitch.
However. it would be less expensive to replace the gooseneck hitch with a 5th wheel installation kit (provided you do not use the gooseneck hitch). This is also safer because there are less components chained together like when you use an adapter.
I have included a link to the 5th wheel main page for a 2006 Chevy Silverado. Just select the series and bed size to see the available options for both hitches and installation kits.
