Selecting Snow Chains for 2007 BMW X3 All Wheel Drive with 255/40/19 Rear Tires

I would like to purchase for my 4 wheel drive vehicle, the front tire size are 235 45 19 and the rear tires are 255 40 19, but I just want to purchase only a pair if its possible, I only use the vehicle once a month to go to Tahoe, your help will be greatly appreciated and would like a quick delivery once I have your recommendations thanks you

In considering tire chains a wise first step is to refer to your vehicle owners manual for any cautions or restrictions related to the use of tire chains on your specific vehicle. It is important that you adhere to the manufacturer recommendations. I did find a copy of the X3 manual online and it indicates that tire chains are to be used only on the rear wheels.

For your rear-tire size, 255/40/19, we offer a number of choices for on-road use. The Glacier Square-Link Snow Tire Chains, part # PWPLC1144, are a cost-effective option. These S Class chains are made of case-hardened low-carbon steel and come in their own handy storage case. We recommend using the Glacier Rubber Adjusters for Light-Truck Snow Chains, part # PW99, which keep the chains properly tensioned on your tires. These rubber adjusters will substantially improve the performance of these chains.

An upmarket alternative is the Thule Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains for Passenger Vehicles, part # TH02230K44. These chains are made of a special manganese-nickel alloy steel and adjust automatically. They include ice-breaking reinforcements and will not touch your alloy wheels like other chains. I have included a video on this product. Please note that you will need to confirm the size of the lug nuts on your rear wheels. The Thule chains come with 17mm and 19mm lug nut adapters; if you have 22mm lug nuts you will also need part # TH1500052581 for 22mm lug nuts.

The Glacier chains referenced above are fine for occasional or emergency use, but if you know you will be driving into severe snow conditions on a regular basis, then the Thule chains are a better choice.
