Best Way to Find Cold Side of Brake Light Switch on 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500
Question:
Have Roadmaster 9000 brake system, installing on 2017 Chev Silverado 1500. Need to locate cold wire for brake light monitor, other than switch, which is inaccessible. Also have 4 diode light wiring system. Do I need the six for this truck? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:
The correct diode kit for your 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 is the 4 diode kit- Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154, so you won't need the 6 diode kit.
To find the cold side of the brake light switch you'll want to check out the video I attached that details the installation of a brake controller using a plug in adapter; the adapter plugs into the fuse box near the driver's side kick plate. You'll want to find the back of that and test those wires to determine which wire gets power when the brake pedal is pushed. You'll need to use a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to perform this test.
Once you've located that wire on the back of the fuse box, you'll be able to install your supplemental braking system.
