Tire Chains for 2017 BMW X1 Plus Safety Equipment

Question:

I have a BMW 2017 X1 Tire size 225/50-R18, will the Thule K-summit work on this car, I can not find any cables that will work. Any recommendations? Also, owners manual does not recommend chains for this tire size, but I see a lot of people looking for it. Additionally, they recommend installing on the front tires, which seems wrong to me. Thoughts? Thanks.

The Thule # TH02230K44 Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains are a confirmed fit for 225/50-R18 tires and are designed for vehicles with limited wheel well clearance. As long as you have a couple inches clearance at the wheel tread you should be fine. Since the X1 is a primarily front wheel drive vehicle you will use a pair of chains on the front only. Keep in mind to keep your speed under 30 mph and to only use on compacted snow or ice.

Since you are getting your safety gear ready for winter you may want to consider the Orion # RN8907-01 60-piece Emergency Kit. Also very popular in this category is the Savior # SA54FR LED Road Flares. Place these roadside to warn other motorists or place on top of vehicle to be seen. They even have a magnetic base. Beyond these Grandpa always said to keep a wool blanket in the trunk!
