The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 will work on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee but you'll have to hardwire it in using the Wiring Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers part # 5506. The stop light switch, brake output, power, and ground will all still need to be run. It's pretty much a full hardwired install despite the factory 7-way. This vehicle does not have a brake controller plug under the dash like the earlier models to the best of my knowledge.
The only type of plug-in-play option would be the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 which if I were you would return the P3 in favor for due to the ease of install.
