How to Determine How Much Tongue Weight an ATV Will Add to Small Toy Hauler
Question:
I have a small toy hauler. With my cargo the current tongue weight is 420lbs. I would like to add an atv at 700lbs. How can I figure out what percentage would add to the tongue weight considering the atv will take up the entire trailer sitting 22” behind the 41” A frame and the axle is near the rear of the trailer so not much weight will sit behind the axle. The actual heaviest part of the atv will be over the axle and forward?

Honestly, the quickest and easiest way to figure out how much tongue weight your ATV would add would be to use a tongue weight scale like the etrailer # e99044. There are other ways to determine this as well, I'll link you to an article that explains a few other ways to find your loaded trailer's tongue weight.
You can also come up with a pretty close guesstimate by estimating what percentage of the ATV's weight would sit in front of the axle and add that figure to the existing tongue weight.
