Recommended Trailer Brake Controller For 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee With Factory Tow Package

Question:

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has a factory tow package with the round 7 wire connect. My travel trailer has electric brakes single axle and I tested them by jacking it up and applying the brakes on my Jeep while it was plugged to trailer, the brakes on trailer don’t engage? I see that the Jeep is wired for a brake controller blue wire labeled Under dash, but I don’t have a brake controller installed. Should my brakes on trailer still work anyway, or do I have to install a brake controller? Thank you.

Your 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee will need to have a trailer brake controller installed for power to be sent to the trailer brakes.

I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 since it is a top of the line proportional brake controller that will match the braking power you apply to your Jeep's brakes to send to the trailer brakes for a controlled braking experience. It also has an easy to read LCD screen and built in diagnostics if any issues arise.

When we installed the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the tow package we used the Wiring Kit # 5506. I included the installation video to walk you through the installation as the P2 # 90885 will install the exact same way as the P3 # 90195 with the only difference being the mounting brackets are slightly different.

I also included a video of the P3 # 90195 for you to take a look at.
