Installation of Tekonsha P-3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 on 2006 Ford Expedition

Question:

It already has a trailer package on it. Will I have to do any wiring under the hood, or just connect it under the dash using your adapter harness 3035? It also has a 4 wire connector, not a 7 wire at the back of the auto. What will I need to convert it to a 7 wire?

Using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3035-P you referenced, you should be able to install the Tekonsha P-3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 by mounting the item under the dash of your 2006 Ford Expedition. You will need to plug the one end of the adapter to the brake controller and the other end into the built-in harness beneath your vehicles dash.

I have included a link to the instruction for the proper installation of the adapter. I have also included a link to a video showing the installation of the brake controller on a 2005 Ford Expedition. It is not the same model as yours, but the installation will be similar.

To address your issue with the 4 pole to 7 pole adapter, I recommend the Tow Ready Adapter # 30717. I have included a link showing a video review of this product. I have also included a graphic of this item describing how to install it.

To connect this product, follow the 4-way from the trailer connector towards the front of the vehicle, which you should see before you get to the rear wheels. These wires connect to a factory plug along the frame rail, usually on the drivers side, between the back tires and the rear bumper.

The factory plug should be paired to another connector with wiring that continues back toward the bumper. Ford wires the front of the vehicle as if it will be manufactured with a 7-Way plug, so all the 7-Way wires are run to this connector on the frame rail.

To install the 7-Way, first plug in the 4-Way trailer connector on the adapter into the 4-Way connector on the vehicle. Next, snip the blue and orange Ford wires next to the plug coming from the front of the truck. Connect them to the blue and black wires on the adapter. Finally, Using a self-tapping screw, secure the white wire to the vehicle frame to ground the adapter.
