Recommended Suspension/Axle/Hub and Brake Assembly Recommendation for Home Made Trailer
Question:
Hi, we are trying to put together an off-road capable trailer and I was hoping to get some insight as to what I would all need. I am hoping to get mostly everything needed from you guys, if possible. The trailer is a single axle trailer - which will weigh less than 2000 pounds - that needs to have electric brakes operated by a 7-pin connector. I was thinking a torsion axle, but open to suggestions from your side on this.

Actually, using the Timbren Axle-Less suspension like the # A35RS545E would be an excellent place to start. It's not necessary, but many will join both axle assemblies using a 2x2 steel tube to tie both sides together for stability. Each assembly includes the Suspension/Spindle assembly, the 10 inch hub/drum and the electric brake assembly. Both assemblies have a combined capacity up to 3500 lb, so it'll work well for your trailer. The bearings, races, grease seals, dust cover and lug nuts are all included. The trailer might weigh less than 2000, but you'll need capacity for gear as well.
To wire the trailer, a junction box/trailer connector like # 277-000141 would be a good choice along with a taillight/wiring kit like # TLL9RK would also come in handy.
Other parts needed will depend on the eventual weight and design of the trailer, hopefully what's recommended above will provide a good start for you.
