Determining Correct 14" Wheel And Tire Upgrade For 1986 Calkins Trailer

Question:

I have a 1986 Calkins trailer and I would like to put some nicer rims on it.. What are on there now is 14X 5 Max load 1985lbs.. Tires size D78X14B Axle2400.. Im not sure the hole size in the middle but I was hoping the vin would tell that story.. Can you send me a list of the tire/rim combos that will work..

I can absolutely help you determine the correct tire and wheel combinations for you to upgrade the 14" wheels on your 1986 Calkins Trailer but you will need to take a few measurements to confirm the fit.

Unfortunately there is not a way for me to look up the pilot hole or bolt pattern of your trailer by the VIN number so you will need to take a few easy measurements.

Most 14" wheels are 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and have a 3.19" pilot hole opening. To make sure that this is the same as you will need to measure the bolt pattern following the instructions in the included article, and will need to measure the current pilot hole on your wheel.

Also the smallest 14" trailer tire we offer is the 205/75R14 which will be roughly 1" taller and wider than your current D78X14B tires so you will want to make sure that will not cause any issues with your fenders or suspension.

As long as you do have the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and a pilot hole opening of 3.19" or less you can choose any of the wheel and tire combinations found at the link I attached, but personally I think the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Tire w/ 14" Series T09 Aluminum Wheel # AM34659 is a great choice due to its sharp looks and since it offers a 2200lb weight capacity at 75 PSI.

If you find that you have a different bolt pattern or pilot hole diameter, or you need an option that uses a smaller tire let me know so I can search for the correct products for your needs.
