Carrying Snowboards on a Trailer Hitch or Roof Rack for a 2012 Chrysler 200

Question:

I was contemplating the snowboard attachment for my Chrysler 200. I would need the hith, but I am not sure what bike rack I would have to purchase. I noticed tho profile on the video was quite high which is okay for an SUV but would be akward for a sedan style car. can you tell the best model to purchaseaffordable for my vehicle. i was looking at the Curt trailer hitch C11133 1 1/4 hitch opening but not sure the best rack/ snowboard attachment at least 4 snowboard capacity. thanks

For a trailer hitch for your 2012 Chrysler 200, I recommend the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24871 because it does not require the use of a stabilization strap for non-trailer loads like the Curt hitch does. I have included a link to the instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you.

Because this is a Class I trailer hitch there are only certain bike racks that you can use. The HitchSki, # Y02418, only fits on certain Yakima 4-bike racks, none of which will fit in a Class I trailer hitch. Instead you can go with a Thule bike rack, like Hitching Pos Pro # TH934XTR. Then you can use the Tram, # TH9033. When used on a 1-1/4 inch hitch it has a 4 board capacity. I have linked a video review for you. The height is always going to vary on the vehicle. The 200 is lower to the ground so it will not be up as high as you see in the pictures for the HitchSki on the SUV.

After you add up the cost of all of these items, you might find that going with a roof rack is a better option. I recommend the Rhino-Rack system:

Crossbars, # RRVA126B-2
25 Series Legs, # RRRLKVA
DK Fit Kit, # DK317

Then for 4 boards you can use the FatCat EVO 6, # Y03096. Going with a roof rack and carrier is the less expensive option. But if you have a convertible you will have to go with the hitch, bike rack, and adapter combo.
