Parts Needed to Use Demco Kwik-Tow Tow bar with Newer Base Plates on 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

looking to purchase a base plate for a 2021 jeep grand Cherokee. I have an older ball mount tow bar that has 1/2 by 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 square flat stock that would attach to base plate with 2 hitch pins on the end of tow bar. is there anything available I could use with out purchasing another tow bar? also I would need a tail light/directional/stop light, wire harness kit...

I have a solution for you, but there are a few issues that are coming up here. First, your Demco Kwik-Tow tow bar is only rated for a maximum of 5000-lbs and it looks like the curb weight of your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is around 5300-lbs; this is going to put you over the weight limit at worst and potentially right at it with lesser trim packages. Considering the age of the Kwik-Tow, it might not be the safest solution for this. Additionally, Demco has not confirmed the fit of any base plates on the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee yet.

If your vehicle is below 5000-lbs curb weight and you want to wait until there is a confirmed base plate for your vehicle you can use the Adapter for Demco Kwik-Tow and Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bars to Demco Invisible Base Plates # DM9523128 to adapt your tow bar for use with a Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit. Going this route does not allow for the removal of the base plate arms either, so you will have those permanently visible on the front of your vehicle, which might be something to consider if you're at all concerned with aesthetics.

Your best bet considering the age of the tow bar and size of the vehicle, and depending on the urgency of need, would likely be to get a new tow bar and base plates compatible with your new vehicle. I recommend using the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521440-5 and the Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520 tow bar. The Falcon 2 is a great value priced tow bar that still has telescoping arms and a self-aligning design that make hooking up your vehicle much easier than your old tow bar, and has a 6000-lbs capacity which is more than enough for your Jeep GC.

For tow bar wiring I recommend the Roadmaster Hy-Power Diode Kit # RM-154 which will provide you with a signal for the light functions from the motorhome to the Jeep; the diodes in the kit are designed to help protect the towed vehicle from feedback and electrical currents that may damage the electrical components. This is a great choice that we've installed on a lot of similar Jeep Grand Cherokees that is relatively easy to install.

If you also need safety cables for this rig, I recommend using the Roadmaster # RM-653.

I've linked some installation and product review videos of these parts for you to have a look at, as well.
