Do Trailer Tires Need to be Inflated to Max Pressure When Carrying Less than Full Capacity of Weight
Question:
Going to put new tires on my pop up, 145R12, im wanting to go with the LR E tires, which are 80 psi max. Do they need to be run at the max, 80 psi even tho I am well under their weight capacity or is it ok to run a little lower, say 65 or 70 without any detrimental issues? Thank you,

Expert Reply:
Trailer tires like the # AM10140 which have a max pressure rating of 80 psi need to be ran at their max psi at all times to ensure you get the full weight capacity like you mentioned but also to prevent heat build up from excessive sidewall flex. Unlike vehicles that have a range of pressure you can use trailer tires need to be inflated to their max psi when cold to be reliable and safe.
